My Internship with the California Democratic Club during the November 2012 Election.

I got an internship with the California Democratic Club. Some of the duties that I performed on this internship were phone banking and cleaning up the office. I called voters to inform them to vote No on Proposition 32 & Yes on Proposition 30.  Both propositions were very important for the welfare state of California. Had prop 30 not passed, which it did, the California School system would have greatly suffered. During my phone banking, I called Governor Jerry Brown and talked with him on the phone about these two propositions. I met Barbara Lee at various events that were held in the downtown Oakland main office and won tickets to see an Obama rally in San Francisco. It was very inspiring to see hear him speak, he gives amazing speeches and I was moved to tears. I learned about the propaganda and misunderstandings behind political campaigns. The only challenging aspect of my internship was at half way through the month of October, which was halfway through my internship, I began to grow tired of calling voters and getting yelled at for disturbing them. It was disheartening when people would cuss me out over the phone. Calling republicans was especially brutal.

This was not my first time working for a political campaign. I worked for the Obama and No on Prop 8 campaign back in 2008 with a couple friends. We phone banked and walked precincts distributing campaign literature. This was an amazing experience so I had very high expectations going into this internship. The precinct walking was the most fun but at the CDP internship, there was no precinct walking so that was a bit disappointing.  However, being able to see Obama, talking to Jerry Brown, and meeting Barbara Lee, was an amazing experience and because of that, this internship exceeded my expectations.
